What is anodising – How is it done?

Custom Colour Anodising

Anodising is accomplished by immersing the aluminium into an acid electrolyte solution and passing a current through the aluminium.

Custom Colour Anodising: A cathode is mounted to the inside of the anodising tank; the aluminium acts as an anode, so that oxygen ions are released from the electrolyte to combine with the aluminium atoms at the surface of the part being anodised. Anodising is, therefore, a matter of highly controlled oxidation – the enhancement of a naturally occurring phenomenon. The finished product is left with an incredibly hardwearing surface that’s scratch resistant, impervious to moisture and has a life expectancy of 50 years and over, which is how we’re able to gladly say that the finish is guaranteed not to fade nor change for at least 25 years !
